Trump's not the phenomenon but the response to the phenomenon. ~Chris Hedges

Most of my ideas on Election 2016 come from the writers and editors of Black Agenda Report. I'm used to taking on positions that not many other folk agree with.

One overarching theme from BAR is that the lesser evil is actually the more effective evil, because it's the evil that gets into office and does evil. Folk who say that Trump must be destroyed soundly in the general are unwittingly giving Hillary what she would want to call a mandate.

Apropos of the Black Left, I've heard the following attributed to Mumia Abu-Jamal, but haven't yet been able to verify:

If Trump's the price we have to pay to get rid of Clintonism once and for all, then so be it.

Thomas Frank's new book, Listen, Liberal: Or, Whatever Happened to the Party of the People, isn't afraid to tackle what he also calls Clintonism:

A few other random reflections:

The best way to oppose Trump is to hold Hillary's fee to the fire. Stephen Thrasher at The Guardian made this point. This round (again) we have too many least-worst voters, who give up all their power by pledging early without making any demands of the least-worst candidate (other than not being the other candidate).

There's little different between a neofascist catastrophe and a neoliberal disaster. ~Cornel West

Kissinger is not a bulwark against Donald Trump's recklessness and immorality—he's Trump's enabler. ~Greg Grandin

In 2008, Hillary threatens Iran with nuclear attack on NBC. To me, this is the same order of recklessness as Trump in 2016. Pot. Kettle.

The Candidates on Snowden Trump: Execution Clinton: Vigorous prosecution Left public opinion: Full pardon ~Assange

I could go on and on, but I have some phone banking for local candidates to do!
